On Embracing the Overwhelm
Your uncertainty, pain, confusion and steadfast commitment for a better tomorrow are real, and November 15th is for you.
To be an artist is to be a translator. It’s to hyper-fixate on our experiences to the point of understanding their depth, and then convert that knowing to colors on a canvas, or lyrics on a page. It’s to take the worst of us, of our world, and feel it, deeply. It’s to let it make us sick to the point that we have no choice but to throw it up.
“This is not a time to throw up our hands, this is a time to roll up our sleeves.”
Our instinct when things get overwhelming is often to turn numb. It’s to fly above the hurt. But art brings an irony to this. It refuses to let us continue on. It’s a moment of fixated time that lives forever. It’s one emotion, displayed in all of its depth. It’s what reminds us that we’re not alone in this overwhelm, in this pain, in this uncertainty.
PROTAGONIST is public now (!!!), having officially released last Friday, November 1st. We’re performing it live alongside some of the most stunning artists and creatives I’ve met in New York on November 15th. The album release show will feature an indoor street fair, showcasing incredible visual artists like Emily Glynn, and a handmade leather goods maker, Dante Christopher. The show will be opened by seven comics and songwriters, each sharing their work for ten minutes, and then we’ll perform PROTAGONIST, with a full band and dancer, in an art gallery.
Your uncertainty, pain, confusion, and steadfast commitment for a better tomorrow are real, and this event is for you. Our aim is to create a space for you to bask in the depth of all that you are.
We’ll see you in Downtown Brooklyn on November 15th. Tickets here.
